This is good news! Perhaps finally, there can be more timely public information about the causes of oil spills and other accidents that damage Singapore's shores. Such public information will help us to prevent and better protect our shores from such accidents.
The TSIB's investigations are more likely to be publicised in a timely manner because it will be "independent of and separate from any judicial or regulatory proceedings, and make recommendations to enhance the safety of air and sea transport. Indeed, the sole objective of TSIB’s investigations is the prevention of further accidents and incidents; they are not for the purposes of apportioning blame or liability."

FORMATION OF TRANSPORT SAFETY INVESTIGATION BUREAU (TSIB)
The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has restructured the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to form the new Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB) on 1 August 2016.
Role of new Transport Safety Investigation Bureau
2. The TSIB will conduct investigations into air and marine accidents and incidents, independently of and separately from any judicial or regulatory proceedings, and make recommendations to enhance the safety of air and sea transport. Indeed, the sole objective of TSIB’s investigations is the prevention of further accidents and incidents; they are not for the purposes of apportioning blame or liability. Countries such as Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom and United States have similar set-ups.
3. Since its formation in 2002, the AAIB has conducted and participated in investigations of various air accidents and incidents, and has contributed to improving the safety of air travel in Singapore. TSIB will continue and build on the good work of the AAIB.
4. The TSIB will take over from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) the role of conducting independent safety investigations into marine accidents and incidents, and make recommendations to enhance the safety of sea transport. MPA will continue to investigate marine accidents and incidents for compliance with its regulations for ships operating within Singapore waters and ships under the Singapore flag.
